The 2017 Tournament

A trophy came home for the second successive year, a superb achievement.

In July 2017, Phoenix Football Academy flew to Gothenburg from London with 5 squads to participate in the Gothia World Youth Cup in Sweden, the biggest youth tournament in world football, with over 31000 competitors from 84 countries of the world.

Phoenix Football Academy were represented this year by teams at U12, U13, U14, U15 and U16 age groups.

A resume of the results :-

U12 Squad

Played 5 games against teams from Sweden, UAE, Austria and were eventually defeated and knocked out by a team from Germany.

U13 Squad

Knocked out by eventual semi finalists from Bulgaria, after recording excellent results against teams from Norway and USA and a brilliant draw with IFK Gothenburg

U14 Squad

The U14s won their group in a tough week, getting past teams from Hong Kong and Sweden, then had two penalty shoot out victories before beating beaten in the last 16 by a team from Germany.

U15 Squad

The squad had a superb run of results in the group including a big win against a team from India, only to be pegged back from 2-0 up to lose 4-2 to the eventual champions from France.

U16 Squad

A win and a draw in the group sent them squad into the plate where they re-grouped and with a series of excellent wins reached the final played at the SKF Arena where they defeated their Swedish opposition 3-0 with goals from McKechnie 2 and Peries.
